QSciTech-QuantumBC Virtual Workshop: Gate-Based Quantum Computing Using IBM Q

January 21, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 2:30 pm

Quantum Computing at your fingertips:

Elevate your expertise to seize tomorrow’s opportunities

Quantum computing has the potential to solve problems beyond the capabilities of conventional supercomputers, and could revolutionize the advancement of several fields, including biochemistry, finance, logistics, and artificial intelligence. It is therefore essential to develop concrete expertise to take advantage of the new possibilities that will arise from the development of this technology.

In 2020, the Université de Sherbrooke joined the IBM Q network as the IBM Q Hub at the Institut quantique (Iq).  The IBM Q Hub provides academic and industrial members with exclusive cloud access to IBM’s quantum computing systems and software, including a 65-qubit universal system, currently the largest one available in the industry. The Canadian organization CMC Microsystems offers access to the IBM Q Hub for all Canadian academics through the National Design Network.

To take advantage of this unique opportunity for the Canadian quantum computing community, the NSERC CREATE programs Quantum BC and QSciTech have joined forces to bring to you a one-of-a-kind workshop to learn how to use IBM’s quantum computing system for real-world applications.

With support from the IBM Q Hub at Institut Quantique, the Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute, and CMC Microsystems, QSciTech and Quantum BC invite you to join a virtual workshop at the end of January 2021. The workshop will be focused on problem-based learning, teamwork, and best practices in quantum software development. Spread over 5 days of activities, it will include training sessions on quantum algorithms and their applications, with a focus on simulating quantum hamiltonians for quantum materials and chemistry. By the end of the workshop, you will be able to use the IBM Q platform and basic quantum computing tools to solve concrete, small-scale quantum chemistry problems. The workshop will also include poster sessions and an awards ceremony for the best student presentations.

Do not miss this QSciTech-QuantumBC virtual workshop, which will allow you to develop your expertise in a tangible way while running calculations on one of the most powerful quantum computers in the world! See below for all the details.
